5 Things You Should Do on Your Wedding Day

It’s finally here, the day you’ve been dreaming about since you were a little girl: your wedding day! But I bet your 10-year-old self didn’t realize how much work goes into planning a wedding. Luckily, there are so many resources out there to help you. At the end of the day, try not to stress the small stuff and remember the only thing that matters is spending this special day with your soon-to-be spouse. Here are 5 things you should do on your wedding day.

So, take a breath and read below the 5 things you should do on your wedding day:

1. Personalize your wedding ceremony to you and your fiancé

It’s okay to stray from traditions if they don’t mean as much to you. Don’t feel pressured to do things at your wedding because it’s what’s “always been done” or it’s what someone else wants. This is your day and you want it to be meaningful for you.

If you want both your parents to walk you down the aisle, do it! If you want to skip the bouquet/garter toss and spend more time dancing, go for it! Maybe its the groom and groomsmen sharing the same kind of whitey tighties. There is no right or wrong when it comes to traditions on your wedding day.

2. Take a breath and enjoy the moments

I know it seems like everyone says this, but there’s a reason for it. It’s so easy to get caught up in everything happening and making sure everything is perfect that you forget to take a breath and enjoy your special day. Be intentional with how you want to feel in the moment so you can remember it for years to come.

Don’t forget to focus on your partner and their emotions too, they are the reason you’re here. You’ve found someone you want to spend the rest of your life with, and you are about to make a lifetime promise to love one another no matter what. The two of you are only just starting your journey together and you want to remember this day and how you both feel about one another.

3. Put your phone down

While you may feel the urge to update social media, text your friends, or scroll through TikTok, today is a day to be present in the moment. Putting your phone down and being completely immersed in your day will help you enjoy it and remember the all the little moments that made your day special.

4. Remember those who have passed

It’s important to take a minute to think about your loved ones who are unable to make it to your wedding. This is one of the happiest days of your life and you want them to be a part of it, even in spirit. There are many ways you can do this whether that be your officiant taking a moment of silence, placing a memento of theirs in your bouquet, boutonniere, jewelry, or accessories, or even reserving a chair for them during the ceremony.

This may seem counterproductive in setting a good mood for your wedding, but we all have someone we’ve lost who we’d hoped would be there on our special day. Doing something like this can bring closure and provide the opportunity for your loved ones to be there in memory.

5. Don’t sweat the small stuff

Another cliché saying, but still 100% true! Even if you plan every detail down to the last minute, something is going to go wrong. It’s okay! Just laugh about it and move on, because at the end of the day no one is going to remember that little detail, not even you.

You want to enjoy your special day that you’ve worked so hard planning and have waited your whole life for. So when something does happen - take a breath and remember why you’re there. To celebrate the love between you and your fiancé, nothing else matters.
